Why Photography

I've never blogged before but I do like to write, so I'm hoping this will be fun! First off I just want to tell people why I started photography. I have been obsessed with photography from a very young age, and specifically baby pictures. I think the fascination came from the waiting room at my pediatricians office ( Dr. Susan Schulman) as a child. She had these amazing images hanging along the walls for Anne Gedde. I was enamored with them and just loved staring at that wall whenever I visited the doctor.
As I got older I tried my hand at photography with my little siblings. Being the second oldest of 12 children certainly gave me lots of models to work with! I had no idea what I was doing and I was probably using those good old disposable film cameras we had in those days.
Interestingly, as I became an adult and looked for different career options, photography was not one of them. I'm not really sure why, but I think I sort of idolized the profession so much that it never dawned on me that I can actually do it myself. All that changed when I went to school to learn graphic design. I had been doing graphics for many years using knock off programs and I wanted to learn adobe for once and for all.
Living upstate at the time, my best and cheapest option for learning was going to the local community college, and that's what I did. My goal was to learn adobe but I had to take lots of other courses as well in order to complete the program. One of the courses I took was photography. We had to go out and buy ourselves a dslr and I chose to go with Nikon. From the day I picked up that camera I have been hooked!
I absolutely love photography! I dabble in many different niches but my favorite is individual portraits. I don't know why, but I find it extremely satisfying to turn someones portrait into a piece of art. Most people don't realize how much beauty they have, and I love making them realize that.
So that's pretty much it! That was my journey towards photography.
See you next time,
Zisi
